Ligue 1 (7th day) – Stade Rennais explodes Auxerre, Amine Gouiri finds the way to the goal

Ruthless Bretons with too tender Burgundians. Rennes did not shine completely against Auxerre, Sunday during the 7th day of Ligue 1, but still won a very large victory (5-0). Bruno Genesio’s men sanctioned AJA’s shortcomings and Kamaldeen Sulemana quickly opened the scoring (3rd), Amine Gouiri doubled it (60th), then Martin Terrier (68th), Flavien Tait (78th) and Matthis Abline (85th) shook the nets in turn. They finally really launched their season in the league and climbed to 6th place, while the Auxerrois chained a third setback against a big engine.

In line with its victory snatched at the last second in the Europa League against Larnaca (1-2), Rennes started the meeting foot to the floor. It only took three minutes of play for Sulemana, already decisive passer on the lawn of the Cypriots, to deceive Benoît Costil with a low cross shot after a long clearance from Steve Mandanda (1-0, 3rd). Holder in L1 for the first time this season and even for the first time since the end of November 2021, the 20-year-old Ghanaian opened his goal counter in 2022.

Gouiri delivered, Mandanda decisive

Boiling against Auxerrois who took the bad habit of missing their start to the match, Sulemana even almost doubled the bet by sending the ball towards Costil’s goal which he had just dribbled, but Paul Joly appeared to save on the line (16th). The Rennais who had lost Baptiste Santamaria to injury (9th) however fell back into their ways. They relaxed curiously and let the promoted Auxerre catch their breath and get back into the game. Mandanda thus had to push back a recovery from Mathias Autret (31st).

Despite the break and the entry of Tait in place of Sulemana to densify the midfield, the Bretons appeared lost against more determined Burgundians. On a cross from Lassine Sinayoko, Rayan Raveloson and Hamza Sakhi nevertheless missed the boat by getting embarrassed in front of the opposing goal (51st). It was a turning point in this meeting, just like this gross loss of the ball by Alexandre Coeff in front of his surface against Gouiri who was able to adjust Costil and double the bet (2-0, 60th). The former Nice, who had not scored since the end of January despite 20 matches and 36 shots, can thank the central defender of AJA.

Auxerre then completely sank in defense and Gouiri spun in depth, before serving Terrier for a new goal (3-0, 68th). After an Auxerre corner, Mandanda clearly signaled to Tait to go in the middle and sent him towards the opposing area with a long clearance. Tait was able to bypass Costil and also score (4-0, 78th). The former OM goalkeeper thus signed the very first assist of his career in L1. Entering at the end of the match, the young Abline also took advantage of the defensive wanderings of Auxerre to open his counter (5-0, 85th). In front of Lyon (2-1 defeat) and Marseille (0-2 defeat), Jean-Marc Furlan’s Auxerrois had limited the breakage. This time, they took a good slap against Rennes who were happy to sanction their individual and tactical weaknesses.
