In the mood for a sweet and juicy pastry, but no time for a lot of effort? A cinnamon roll from the cup requires only a few ingredients, is prepared in no time at all and tastes absolutely fantastic.

Cinnamon buns are a Swedish cultural asset. You can find them on every corner, they count as a traditional specialty (with their own holiday) and can be found in almost every café, at gas stations and even at kiosks. Cinnamon rolls are part of the Swedish fika, a type of coffee break with sweet pastries. Incidentally, the traditional Swedish cinnamon bun is called “Kanelbullar”. You can literally translate the term with the word “cinnamon balls”.

Fast, uncomplicated, delicious

Wheat flour, milk, yeast, sugar and butter are used for the original Swedish Kanelbullar. The filling usually consists of a cinnamon-sugar mixture, to top it off, the bullar is coated with a cracked egg and sprinkled with granulated sugar.

Yeast doesn’t get into our cups with the Blitz cinnamon bun – the ingredients for the dough can be counted on three fingers and can be found in almost every standard kitchen. Flour, baking powder and milk form the basis – vary the amount of liquid until you get a slightly sticky, easily malleable dough. As in the original, the filling consists of a cinnamon and sugar mixture. A pinch of salt also highlights the aroma, rolled up and placed in a cup, it goes into the microwave. Instead of egg and granulated sugar, we use icing sugar and milk. It’s quick to make and can be spread wonderfully on the cinnamon roll. Tada! The finished cup cinnamon roll stands in front of you steaming hot and is not only suitable as a pleasure for in between, but also as a perfect snack for guests – in case a spontaneous fika is coming up again.

  • A dash of milk
  • 4 tablespoons of flour type 405
  • ½ teaspoon of baking powder
  • 3 – 5 tablespoons of milk
  • 1 tablespoon of brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon Ceylon cinnamon

Alternative to yeast plaits: this is how you make perfect cinnamon rolls

preparation

  1. Mix powdered sugar with a dash of milk to form a glaze.
  2. Mix the flour with the baking powder and a little milk until a soft, slightly sticky dough is formed.
  3. Shape the dough into a roll and press it flat.
  4. Mix the brown sugar with cinnamon and a pinch of salt and pour onto the dough.
  5. Roll up the dough, turning it inside out a little.
  6. Pour into a cup and cook in the microwave for about 1.5 minutes on the highest setting. Check after a minute to see if the dough is ready.
  7. Put the frosting on the finished, warm cinnamon bun and serve immediately.

Tip: If you don’t have a microwave, you can alternatively bake the cup cinnamon bun in the oven at 200 degrees for about 15 minutes. Take care when removing it – the cup is piping hot!
