You dreamed of it, Metz did it. The first French lightsaber championship is organized on Saturday and Sunday at the Sports Palace in the city of Moselle. This is a serious competition, inspired by the lethal weapon of the Jedi from the famous saga by George Lucas Star Wars, under the aegis of the French Fencing Federation (FFE) and the Lightsaber Academy (ASL). An event which is, according to the competition website “more than a sporting competition”, “an unprecedented event, at the crossroads of sport and science fiction”.
In total, sixty-five “French laserists” are registered to participate. They will have to achieve their most beautiful figures during three events, specifies the site strength academy : the choreographic combat, a “discipline of cooperation” which “fictitiously combines several adversaries in a short staging beforehand rehearsed”, the sporting combat which “sees two adversaries confronting each other in a three-minute duel with attacks, parades, ripostes and dodges”, and finally “kata”, “a sequence of codified movements” inspired by martial arts. The first day, the 36 best will be qualified, then during the second, the eight best will be selected, specifies the site Lorraine news.
The lightsaber is even considered a real sporting practice by the French Fencing Federation, which describes the discipline as “a multiple practice: sporting in a duel, martial with its katas, playful with its powers and choreographed in spectacle. »
