A 51-year-old man could face a long prison term for the murder of his own nine-year-old son. The district court of Bamberg announced on Wednesday that the public prosecutor had demanded a life sentence. The verdict is due to fall this Friday.
The 51-year-old had confessed at the start of the trial in mid-October: he hit his nine-year-old boy with a metal hoop in March of this year and then choked him with his bare hands until he stopped moving. According to the prosecution, the man was driven by existential fears and suffered from depression. According to the account, he wanted to kill himself on Sunday morning in March 2021, but then did not manage to harm himself.
The representation of the secondary prosecution also demanded the determination of the particular gravity of the guilt during the trial. The 51-year-old’s defense also requested a murder conviction, but wants to assert that the defendant is less liable to guilt.
