LG’s new 48″ 4K OLED giant monitor UltraGear 48GQ900 with 98.5% DCI-P3 costs 1,299 euros

LG had already announced its new 4K OLED giant monitor UltraGear 48GQ900 in March, now it can finally be pre-ordered and will be delivered at the end of the month. It is marketed as LG’s first OLED gaming monitor, but its technical data also makes it interesting for professional video editing. The 48″ UltraHD 4K monitor has a real 10-bit color depth, an above-average brightness of 450 nits, a contrast ratio of 1,500,000:1 and it almost completely covers the professional DCI-P3 color space at 98.5%.

In addition, the UltraGear 48GQ900 has an important feature for professional work: its color representation can be calibrated per hardware using the free tool LG Calibration Studio in order to reproduce colors reliably. Unfortunately, HDR is only supported by HDR10, but the black value, which is important for high image dynamics, should be very low (and therefore good) due to the OLED technology used, which allows control of each individual pixel. The grey-to-grey response time, which is a low 0.1 milliseconds on the 48GQ900, is particularly important for gamers.

The UltraGear 48GQ900 supports high variable frame rates (VRR) of up to 120 Hz using the new HDMI 2.1 standard. In addition, it also has a DisplayPort, via which a refresh rate of (overclocked) 138 Hz is possible. Interestingly enough, the variable playback of frame rates (which is also interesting for video editing) is supported both via NVIDIA’s G-SYNC and via AMD’s FreeSync Premium technology.

The AGLR coating (Anti-Glare Low Reflection) of the display is practical for working with the monitor, which is supposed to reduce annoying light reflections, for example in daylight – a feature that LG’s OLED TVs don’t offer. The interfaces of the UltraGear 48GQ900 include three HDMI 2.1 ports, a DisplayPort 1.4 and a USB 3.0 HUB with 1 upstream and 2 downstream ports (plus headphone connection and SPDIF Out) – but unfortunately no USB-C port.

Due to its size, which is more reminiscent of a television than a monitor, and probably also its high weight of around 20 kg, LG does not offer the option of moving the UltraGear 48GQ900 vertically or by tilting or swivelling. A plus point: the monitor settings can be conveniently adjusted using a dedicated remote control.

The LG UltraGear 48GQ900 can now be pre-ordered at a price of 1,299 euros – it will then be delivered from August 31st. A cheaper alternative is the 48″ OLED monitor GIGABYTE AORUS FO48U, which is currently already being sold geizhals.de/gigabyte-aorus-fo48u-a2582605.html?hloc=at&hloc=de around (1,050 euros) and right similar technical data having.
