LGBTQI at Oktoberfest: How queer people celebrate at the Oktoberfest – Munich

“Gay Sunday”, queer tapping and Prosecco Wiesn: The LGBTIQ community organizes several events at the Oktoberfest. Why this has nothing to do with “woke” and why there are still places for queer people on the festival grounds today.

When they received a request from the Munich Lions Club (MLC) in the Bräurosl tent more than 40 years ago, they thought they would have to deal with TSV 1860 supporters at the Oktoberfest. But no lions in white and blue came into the beer tent. Men came in leather and latex. They, in turn, were very thirsty. And good money, much to the delight of Willy Heide, the innkeeper at the time. The MLC is still celebrating today on the first Sunday of the Oktoberfest in the Bräurosl, this year for the 44th time.
