The spouse of Ersilia Soudais, La France insoumise MP for Seine-et-Marne, was placed in police custody after the elected official filed a complaint for rape, the Meaux prosecutor told AFP on Tuesday March 5 , confirming information from Parisian.
Damien Cassé, municipal councilor in Noisiel (Seine-et-Marne) and also LFI activist, was arrested Tuesday afternoon at his home by the police, according to the Ile-de-France daily. His lawyer Yassine Bouzrou indicated that his “client strongly contests the accusations made against him”.
Jade Dousselin, advisor to the 35-year-old parliamentarian, salutes for her part “the great speed of justice in this case, which demonstrates, if necessary, that it took the full measure of the seriousness of the facts denounced”. “We now hope that all light will be shed with calm and respect for the secrecy of the investigation”added the lawyer for the elected representative of Seine-et-Marne.
LFI condemns the disclosure of information
For its part, La France insoumise said it was calling “respect for the intimacy and private life of Ersilia Soudais”while bringing him “his full support”. The movement was outraged when the complaint was revealed in the press, “without the consent of the victim”which would amount to “a second violence”. “How can women victims of violence still have the confidence to file a complaint, if this complaint is immediately brought before the whole of France?”questioned in particular LFI in a press release.
“Shame on those who, through this article, spit on all victims of violence”, reacted Mathilde Panot, the leader of the Insoumis deputies. “Delete! You disgust us! All media that share are complicit in this abjection.”she was indignant.
