After the senatorial right, the rebellious deputies expressed Monday their wish to seize the Constitutional Council on the bill expanding the health pass, which in their eyes establishes a society “of control which destroys confidence” and “divides”.
The 17 LFI deputies “sent a proposal” for referral “to all their colleagues in the National Assembly to reach the necessary number”. The Constitutional Council can be seized on the initiative of 60 deputies or senators. Once seized, it must rule within one month.
“The executive did not anticipate anything, organize anything”
In the eyes of the group led by Jean-Luc Mélenchon, “the executive did not anticipate anything, organize anything. As since the start of the health crisis [du Covid-19], Emmanuel Macron takes measures that violate freedoms. The monarch decides alone and counts that his parliamentary majority applies the presidential orders without questioning ”.
“Six weeks ago, the President [Macron] however swore never to want to resort to the general health pass. The unity of the people of France and confidence are essential for the fight against the epidemic. The controlling society destroys this trust, divides and will be counterproductive ”, judge the rebels.
The LFI group believes that there are “other solutions, including to convince our fellow citizens to get vaccinated”, and intends to defend “alternative solutions” during the parliamentary debate.
New anticoronavirus measures
The bill establishing new anti-coronavirus measures is presented to the Council of Ministers on Monday, for examination in the hemicycle of the National Assembly on Wednesday, then in the Senate on Thursday, with a view to final adoption at the end of the week.
In particular, it provides for vaccination for caregivers and the extension of the health pass (proof of complete vaccination or immunization, recent negative test) to access trains, bars, restaurants or large shopping centers.
The LR and centrist groups of the Senate have already announced that they would seize the Constitutional Council “to have all possible guarantees”, as soon as the bill is adopted.
