Could Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe mark a similar era to Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo? Robert Lewandowski doesn’t believe in it.

While Bayern striker Robert Lewandowski has a high opinion of Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe (Paris Saint-Germain), he doesn’t believe the two youngsters will follow in the direct footsteps of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

“They have what it takes – but who knows if there won’t be other strikers in the next two or three years. I can’t imagine for a moment that they will dominate international football the way Messi and Ronaldo did have done in the last twelve years,” Lewandowski said in an interview with France Football.

Mbappe reminds Lewandowski of Henry

Messi and Ronaldo have “won all the titles there is to win and made so much history. I think over the next ten years there will be multiple players competing to be the best in the world.”

Nevertheless, Lewandowski emphasized how much he thinks of Mbappe and Haaland. The French world champion is “brilliant with both feet” and has “an immense callousness in front of goal”. Mbappe also reminds him of Thierry Henry, one of his own role modelsthe 33-year-old Pole continued: “They are very similar and I have no doubt that Mbappe will always have a place in football history.”

Among other things, Haaland is characterized by his self-confidence and his wide range of qualities: “Sometimes you might think he’s sluggish, but he’s fast, explosive and technically very strong,” said Lewandowski. “He too can become one of the best in the world and will establish himself at the top in the long term.”
