Let’s Talk Money with Sebastião Salgado – Economy

From

Thomas Fromm

Sebastião Salgado has photographed many things in his life. Toiling workers in a gold mine, indigenous people and breathtaking landscapes on the Amazon, the misery in refugee camps and the horror of the genocide in Rwanda. On this evening at the end of February, the photographer and environmental activist will be the guest of honor at a brand award ceremony called the Best Brands Awards, speaking on a stage in the Munich Hotel Bayerischer Hof. About his life, his photos, his environmental organization Instituto Terra. A few hours before that, however, the man who received the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade in 2019 was still sitting on the sofa in a very representative room, his right arm in a sling. “Surgery on the shoulder,” says the 79-year-old and raises his eyebrows – what can you do.
