Let’s talk about money with ex-soccer player Nico Patschinski – economy

Nico Patschinski co-founded the St. Pauli myth of the “World Cup winner-victor” with his goal against FC Bayern. A conversation about the game of his life, a suitcase full of black money and why he worked as an undertaker after his professional days.

Interviewed by

Benjamin Emonts and Thomas Hürner

Nico Patschinski is sitting in the bar “Zum Anker” in the Kiez in St. Pauli. He smokes, drinks Astra and talks about old times. Of course, this includes the goal he scored 20 years ago in the Millerntor Stadium against the overwhelming Bayern. A goal that made the cult club FC St. Pauli the “World Cup winner-victor” and founded a myth. But Patschinski also knows the less dazzling side of a football career: he talks about casino games, nights on the couch and the transience of his triumph.
