Bodo Janssen chose a hotel not far from the Reeperbahn; he knows the boss from his days in Hamburg. The lights are dimmed, the decor is trendy, and at ten in the morning there is cappuccino and water for the 49-year-old. Barely four kilometers away is the place where he was kidnapped as a student. Janssen runs the Upstalsboom hotel chain, which includes ten wellness hotels on the North and Baltic Seas as well as numerous holiday apartments. Today he describes the kidnapping as a “treasure trove” that also helped him run his company. He has written several books about it.
