Elizabeth Currid-Halkett knows what she is talking about when it comes to the “emerging class” – that new social elite in many parts of the world that no longer defines itself through luxury goods but rather through education, environmental awareness and ethical norms -year-old sociologist and urban planner has not only researched the topic for many years – she is part of this class herself and knows the advantages as well as the shallows from her own experience. Currid-Halkett, mother of three, works at the renowned University of California in Los Angeles. A few weeks ago her latest book “The sum of small things” was published in German – albeit under the somewhat misleading title “Fair traded?”.
