Léon Marchand, double world champion, “worked his mind” to win

If the French swimmer Léon Marchand has just been crowned double world champion (end of June 2022 in Budapest), he owes it, by his own admission, to a mental preparation which allowed him “to finally grow as a human “. And to explode, for our most cocky pleasure, the competition in the pools!

“Leon will be number one in the world in a year or two”

At just 20 years old, the great hope of French swimming has therefore “passed a milestone” by working with mental trainer Thomas Sammut. The latter is also convinced that his protege will be “world number one within a year or two: before, he was afraid of doing wrong, he was swimming with this bad energy and it was not necessarily going well. We worked hard on it, the result is there”.

There is a before and an after for the young champion: “Not long ago, I didn’t like myself, I felt shy and that was a disadvantage. Now it’s more of a strength, it allows me to transcend myself, to really be aware of my strengths, my qualities… and it’s easier to stay focused on yourself when you love each other. His keyword? ” Pleasure ! Because when I’m having fun, I can do whatever I want, I no longer have any limits”.
