Benedikt Doll gave the German biathletes their third victory of the season in the Lenzerheide sprint.
After perfect shooting and a strong running time, the 33-year-old won by 5.4 seconds ahead of Johannes Thingnes Bö from Norway and celebrated his fifth World Cup victory of his career after 10 kilometers.
Philipp Nawrath also achieved his third podium finish of the winter in third place.
“We shot very, very well,” said Doll on “ZDF”: “I felt so confident standing that I knew it would be a zero. It was really a great feeling. We had outstanding skis on the track, Big compliments to the technicians.”
Horn achieves personal record result
Philipp Horn (1/+39.1) achieved his best career result so far in his season premiere in fourth place, while Johannes Kühn (1) rounded off the outstanding German team result in sixth place.
Bö made a mistake in prone and opened the door for Doll. On the final lap, the Black Forester was even able to extend his lead of four seconds. Opening winner Roman Rees was absent due to illness, as was world champion Sebastian Samuelsson from Sweden, who tested positive for Corona.
