Lenovo: Keyboard and mouse charge via solar cells and movement

CES 2024 also offers an opportunity for Lenovo to present various concepts. This also includes an unusual product: This Mechanical Energy Harvesting Keyboard with the appropriate mouse. Both devices should work completely wirelessly and cannot be charged in a traditional way.

Instead, the keyboard and mouse should charge themselves via solar cells and mechanical movement on the table. Both devices are connected with a 2.4 GHz dongle or with the energy-saving and less powerful Bluetooth protocol. Lenovo did not provide any further details.

However, various information can be derived from the product image. The keyboard, for example, is charged using solar cells. These are located above the number row. To the left of it you can see a volume control. The keyboard is also kept in 60 percent format. So some keys, the number pad and the entire row of F keys are missing. Instead, many keys are accessible via secondary assignments. Thanks to the solar cells, the keyboard is still larger than conventional 60 percent keyboards.

USB-C is included


The right mouse is designed for right-handed users. There are three thumb buttons on the left side. There are also two DPI switches and an illuminated mouse wheel. The mouse is most likely charged by moving on the table.

This concept would make less sense for a keyboard, while a mouse is more difficult to charge via solar cells. After all, the hand covers a large part of the usable surface. Despite alternative energy generation, the mouse is also equipped with a USB-C port. It can be charged in the traditional way.
