Lena Meyer-Landrut lands a TikTok hit in Japan – with a three-year-old song

Surprise for Lena Meyer-Landrut: The 31-year-old is currently celebrating great success in Japan, with a song that is less well-known in this country. There is also good news for fans in Germany.
“Big in Japan” is the name of the song that made the group Alphaville famous in the 1980s. Big in Japan – Lena Meyer-Landrut has now also succeeded. At least on TikTok: The 2010 ESC winner landed a huge hit on the social network in the East Asian country. TikTok users create clips for their song “Life Was A Beach” in which they perform a special choreography with their hands to the music.
The unusual thing about the hype: “Life Was A Beach” is already three years old, the song is included on the 2019 album “Only Love, L”, but was never released as a single. The singer herself is surprised that she has such a great success with the piece of all things: “It’s crazy and a total parallel world. I can hardly believe it because it’s so far away and doesn’t feel like it’s in our reality at all,” said Meyer-Landrut of the German Press Agency (DPA) about the hype. She herself also posted a video on her channel, which already has 2.2 million views.
Lena Meyer-Landrut has canceled her tour
In Germany, on the other hand, things are not looking so good at the moment. To the great disappointment of her fans, the 31-year-old canceled her summer tour with reference to the corona pandemic that has not yet been overcome. A decision that the Hanoverian stands by: “When I’ve made a decision, I’m very clear with it,” she told the DPA. “Even if the feeling sometimes arises, I always ask myself whether I actually want to be on tour at the moment. And then I can answer that relatively quickly and with a clear gut feeling.”
Meyer-Landrut understands the sometimes very negative reactions of , fans: “There are many people, especially children, who have been looking forward to it for a long time. I can only say that I don’t do it out of spite or to annoy anyone. “
After all, there is also good news for them: their new single “Looking For Love” was released this Friday.
