Leisure time in Bavaria: More state funding for state garden shows – Bavaria

Bavarian municipalities that want to organize a state horticultural show will in future receive up to two million euros more financial support from the Free State. In this way, the state garden shows should be able to continue their success story in the future, said Environment Minister Thorsten Glauber (Free Voters) on Wednesday. Garden shows enable sustainable urban development and green oases and promote local recreation and nature experiences on site.

In the future, municipalities’ expenses for a state horticultural show are to be funded with up to one million euros. In addition, investment funding will increase to up to six million euros. In total, funding of up to seven million euros is possible from the Free State; so far it has only been five million. Municipalities receive funding for the creation of green and recreational structures, permanent planting areas, rest areas, ponds or path systems.

The Ministry of the Environment has funded garden shows with a total of almost 80 million euros since 1980. The next state horticultural show will take place this year in Kirchheim near Munich, and then in Furth im Wald in 2025. An organizer for 2026 is still being sought after Tittmoning’s cancellation.
