The new Harz tower in Torfhaus is intended to be a tourist magnet

At the opening, the beacon of hope is still in the hazy weather. But they can deal with this well up in Torfhaus and hope that the 65 meter high Harz tower will soon attract thousands of tourists.

With the 65 meter high Harz Tower, a new excursion destination for the low mountain range has been officially opened in Torfhaus in Lower Saxony. He hopes that this will create an attraction that will attract thousands of visitors every year, said Hannes Mairinger, managing director of Harzturm GmbH, at the opening ceremony on Wednesday. According to him, the investment in the construction is around 10 million euros. The state of Lower Saxony, together with the federal government, is funding the project with around 1.4 million euros.

In addition to two viewing platforms, there is a skywalk with a glass floor on the tower. The climb is possible on foot via stairs and by elevator. One way to go down is via a 110-meter-long slide.

The completion of the tower had been postponed several times. According to the operators, the effects of the corona pandemic, the war against Ukraine and the energy crisis were the reason for this. The groundbreaking was in May 2021 and the opening was originally planned for spring 2022.

He assumes that the tower will develop into an attraction, said Lower Saxony’s Prime Minister Stephan Weil (SPD). From Thursday the tower will be open to the public, at least to a limited extent. The adventure slide is not yet fully assembled and the elevator is not yet finished.
