Leipzig Book Fair: Portrait of the comic artist Anke Feuchtenberger – Culture

She never makes sketches, not even storyboards. It’s always about the whole thing, the drawings are experiments into the unknown, they can and are allowed to take on a life of their own. “The drawings are what they are,” says Anke Feuchtenberger on the phone. If one wasn’t successful, she would throw the paper away straight away. She hangs what can stay on the wall in her studio, chapter by chapter: “It’s important that the drawings surround me.” Feuchtenberger often draws while standing, not just with his thumb and forefinger, his whole body works. “When I draw, I want to be able to enter the space of drawings myself.”
