We buy furniture from Ikea, the children play with Lego, we take photos with a Canon: company names are firmly anchored in our everyday lives. Often they now even stand for much more: We don’t search the Internet – we google.

Company names change our language. It is often unclear where the names actually come from. What did the founder of Sony want to express with the name? And what is the story behind the invention of Pepsi?

“Businessinsider” researched how the name came about for 17 very well-known companies. Companies developed fantasy words, used Latin and alienated names of deities in order to find the right term for their own company.
