The world of South Korean cinema is in mourning. Actor Lee Sun-kyun, famous for his role in the film Parasite carried in triumph at the 2020 Oscars, was found dead, in conditions akin to suicide, the South Korean news agency Yonhap reported on Wednesday.
The 48-year-old actor was found inside a vehicle in the center of the capital Seoul, with a lit charcoal briquette next to him, Yonhap said, citing police.
His image recently tarnished by an investigation
Lee Sun-kyun was under police investigation on suspicion of using cannabis and other psychotropic drugs.
This scandal tarnished his image as a successful actor, depriving him of television appearances and advertising contracts, according to several South Korean media.
