Watch the video: New apocalyptic thriller with Julia Roberts: Leave the world behind in the trailer.

In “Leave the World Behind” Julia Roberts and Ethan Hawke fight against the end of the world. The newly released trailer gives further insights into the science fiction hit – and raises a lot of questions.

There are still a few highlights coming out on Netflix this year. In addition to David Fincher’s “Killer”, “Maestro” by Bradley Cooper, the reality format of “Squid Game” and the final season of “The Crown”, the science fiction thriller “Leave The World Behind” is also considered a streaming highlight of the year. A new trailer for the film has now been released, giving first impressions of the apocalyptic scenarios that viewers will see in early December.

“Leave the World Behind”: The second trailer also raises questions

In “Leave the World Behind,” Oscar winner Julia Roberts plays a woman who books a weekend trip with her husband (Ethan Hawke) and their two children Archie (Charlie Evans) and Rose (Farrah Mackenzie) to escape the stress of everyday life. At first everything seems idyllic in the luxurious holiday home on the coast – but suddenly a strange man (Mahershala Ali) appears on the doorstep with his daughter (Myha’la Herrold) and tells the unsuspecting family about a cyber attack that will end the world is about to end, the tide turns. The two claim to own the holiday home – and now urgently need their accommodation. As the family grants the strangers refuge, it gradually becomes clear that their announcements that the end of the world is imminent are not a joke, but rather the bitter truth.

In the new trailer, Roberts and Hawke can be seen initially granting Ali and Herrold access to the holiday home. However, cryptic statements, subliminal messages and confusing storylines quickly develop from an interplay of open questions. “I don’t trust them, there’s something strange here,” Roberts can be heard saying in the trailer and continues: “I just want to know: What is the truth?”

In addition to Roberts, Ali and Hawke will also star “Footloose” star Kevin Bacon in the film. Sam Esmail (“Mr. Robot”) is responsible for staging the doomsday scenario, which is based on the novel of the same name by Rumaan Alam. In addition to him, Barack and Michelle Obama are also responsible for the production with their own production company Higher Ground; it is not their first film. “We founded Higher Ground to tell big stories. From science fiction to the beauty of the natural world to the relationships that make us who we are, Higher Ground continues to strive for fresh perspectives, compelling characters and inspiration,” said the ex- Presidential couple told Vogue.

“Leave the World Behind” will be available to stream on Netflix from December 8, 2023.
