“Leave the World Behind”: New trailer for the Netflix hit with Julia Roberts released
In “Leave the World Behind” Julia Roberts and Ethan Hawke fight against the end of the world. The newly released trailer gives further insights into the science fiction hit – and raises a lot of questions.
There are still a few highlights coming out on Netflix this year. In addition to David Fincher’s “Killer”, “Maestro” by Bradley Cooper, the reality format of “Squid Game” and the final season of “The Crown”, the science fiction thriller “Leave The World Behind” is also considered a streaming highlight of the year. A new trailer for the film has now been released, giving first impressions of the apocalyptic scenarios that viewers will see in early December.
“Leave the World Behind”: The second trailer also raises questions
In “Leave the World Behind,” Oscar winner Julia Roberts plays a woman who books a weekend trip with her husband (Ethan Hawke) and their two children Archie (Charlie Evans) and Rose (Farrah Mackenzie) to escape the stress of everyday life. At first everything seems idyllic in the luxurious holiday home on the coast – but suddenly a strange man (Mahershala Ali) appears on the doorstep with his daughter (Myha’la Herrold) and tells the unsuspecting family about a cyber attack that will end the world is about to end, the tide turns. The two claim to own the holiday home – and now urgently need their accommodation. As the family grants the strangers refuge, it gradually becomes clear that their announcements that the end of the world is imminent are not a joke, but rather the bitter truth.

In the new trailer, Roberts and Hawke can be seen initially granting Ali and Herrold access to the holiday home. However, cryptic statements, subliminal messages and confusing storylines quickly develop from an interplay of open questions. “I don’t trust them, there’s something strange here,” Roberts can be heard saying in the trailer and continues: “I just want to know: What is the truth?”
“Leave the World Behind” will be available to stream on Netflix from December 8, 2023.
