Sabrina Dailliez’s daughters are her first readers – S. Dailliez

  • In her books, Sabrina Dailliez wanted to bring up to date “all the expressions [qu’elle] heard from [sa] Grandmother “.
  • At least four first volumes of Little Nice are planned this year.

With his “capèu” (hat), well “pastissé” (covered) with sunscreen, The Little Nice is “at the beach” with a good pan-bagnat, and no question of being “red” (grumpy) or “cacades” (stupidities). At the risk that he puts on the “bouffaisse” to his parents. In the collection of children’s books that she just launched with this first volume
(Elix Editions, 12.90 euros), Sabrina Dailliez wanted to bring up to date “all the expressions [qu’elle] heard from [sa] Grandmother “.

The nissart, this graphic designer native of Nice, hopes like that to make it discover to the “pichouns” and, at the same time, to make their parents smile. These expressions, notably popularized by Noëlle Perna and the earthy “Mado la Niçoise”, Sabrina Dailliez distills them in her pages (obviously specifying their translation) with “the advice of an expert”, who corrected for her “some mistakes of ‘accent “.

“There is a bit of my story in all of this”

“I was not an expert. I started to tell stories to my daughters by adding two or three words in Nice and it made them laugh a lot, ”says the 37-year-old mother. In 2019, she began to scribble the faces of her future characters on her tablet. “Grandmother, I wanted her with this very strong personality and her big round glasses. There is a bit of my story in all of this, ”she breathes.

A story that she wants to pass on from generation to generation. Today, moreover, it is still on two children, aged 6 and 12, that she tests these next books, a mix between the adventures of Little Nicolas and those of Martine.

After the beach, Le Petit Niçois will go “to the countryside” in a new volume, to be published in May. “In September, we will also release a story about Babau, a kind of croquemitaine from here who will scare her very much,” adds the author. And just before Christmas it will be a little different book, The gourmet Petit Niçois, with lots of recipes that I would like to make accessible to children. “
