Lava and smoke: Etna volcano in Sicily erupted

Three lava flows and a cloud of smoke eight kilometers high – Mount Etna has erupted in Sicily. But there was no damage.

Mount Etna erupted in Sicily. On Thursday evening, it spewed lava that flowed a few hundred meters down the mountain in three streams, the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology reported.

A column of smoke about eight kilometers high rose above the Mediterranean island. According to the information, there was no damage or injuries, and air traffic at the airport in the nearby city of Catania did not have to be restricted.

On Friday, an ash cloud still flowed out of Europe’s largest still active volcano, but no more lava.

In several eruptions in the past year, ash in particular caused minor damage in the surrounding areas.
