Lauterbach’s new reform disadvantages specialists – opinion

Anyone who means well about Karl Lauterbach could say: He kept his word. “We are abolishing the budgeting of medical fees in the general practitioner sector,” it says in the coalition agreement, and the Federal Minister of Health has now announced that this promise will be implemented quickly. Doctors have been complaining for a long time about the capping of their fees, which is intended to slow down the increase in costs for statutory health insurance companies – and thus also for those insured. The regulation meant that practices could only bill health insurance companies for treatments at a lower rate or not at all, especially at the end of the quarter. With Lauterbach’s reform, family doctors will no longer be penalized with reductions in their fees if they do a lot. Good this way.
