The moderator ends the program with a laughing and a crying eye. New projects are now on the list for him.

Podcaster Tommi Schmitt stops his TV show “Studio Schmitt” on ZDFneo. “The last episode of my TV show “Studio Schmitt” will be on Thursday,” said the 34-year-old from Cologne in the current edition of his podcast “Gemischtes Hack” on Spotify.

He ended the project of his own free will. “The reason is that I felt that I wanted to do something different again, to try other things. I’ll stay with television and ZDF too. But of course I can’t say what I’ll do then, of course is on secret projects.” He cried when he gave the team a farewell speech.

Schmitt scored particularly well with young audiences with “Studio Schmitt”, a mix of late-night show and talk show. In his announcement of his withdrawal, he emphasized that when he started in 2021 he ended up in the moderator’s chair with practically no TV experience.

Schmitt remembered: “The genesis is such that my first television appearance (…) was this television show. The first time I came out somewhere alone was: “Welcome to my show” – which is very nice and very unhealthy at the same time.”

Much gratitude

Schmitt thanked those responsible for the trust, “at a time when I had never stood in front of a camera and you could clearly see that at the beginning.” They managed to do five seasons with 61 episodes. “What makes me most proud, apart from this development that we have taken as a format, is what has grown together behind the scenes.”

It all came to him when he gathered the team before the penultimate broadcast and gave another speech. “I wanted to tell all that and it didn’t work because I had to cry so much. (…) I just cried the whole time and couldn’t talk. That was really blatant, I didn’t expect that.” Schmitt said he wanted to allow himself “perhaps to fail, just to try things out”.

ZDF confirmed the move. “We would like to thank Tommi Schmitt and the entire team for the inspiring and successful cooperation,” says a statement. “We are already working on ideas together and are in close contact with new projects in the broadcaster cosmos. Where else, if not at ZDFneo, should there be room for reinventing yourself again and again. It is therefore time to conduct new experiments together car.”
