India mourns Lata Mangeshkar: The singer, who starred in more than 1000 Bollywood films, died at the age of 92.

The Bollywood world mourns the loss of a star: Lata Mangeshkar (1929-2022) has died at the age of 92. This is reported, among other things, by the broadcaster “BBC”. Accordingly, she was admitted to the intensive care unit in a hospital in Mumbai on January 11 with a corona infection. There she died on February 6th as a result of multiple organ failure. The singer will receive a state funeral in Mumbai. In addition, the Indian authorities announced a two-day national mourning.

Mangeshkar was known as the “Nightingale of India”. She has lent her voice to numerous Bollywood stars and has appeared in more than 1300 films. Anil Kapoor (65), known from the hit film “Slumdog Millionaire”, expressed his sadness on Instagram: “I am heartbroken but blessed to have known and loved this incredible soul. Mangeshkar “influenced” his life with her music.

Indian PM mourns

India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi (71) spoke up via Twitter: “Following generations will remember her as an important representative of Indian culture, whose melodious voice was able to captivate people in an incomparable way.”

Lata Mangeshkar started singing when she was a teenager. In her long career she is said to have recorded more than 25,000 songs. She has received four Filmfare Awards, among others.
