Summer is here – and this year it’s even noticeable in Germany. This attracts many vacationers to the sea. But where else can you find affordable accommodation on the North Sea and Baltic Sea? A current analysis provides tips.
Germany surprises us this year with a summer that deserves its name: warm temperatures, mostly sunshine and a fresh breeze by the sea to cool off. Those who have not yet booked their summer vacation sometimes consider spending it in their own country again. The coastal regions on the North and Baltic Seas are still among the most popular travel destinations in Germany. However, especially in the summer months, a holiday on the German sea can cost as much as a trip to Italy or Spain.
And yet there are many affordable places in North and East Friesland for those who want to pack their bags at the last minute and take a short vacation. The “HometoGo” platform is one of the largest online marketplaces for holiday homes and, in a current analysis, has examined where you can find the cheapest accommodation near the coast in Germany. The result shows a varied selection of possible travel destinations in Germany, some of which are not yet as popular with tourists as the well-known seaside resorts. In the best case, they are not only cheap, but also not overcrowded.

Those who are drawn to the North Sea will find what they are looking for in Lower Saxony in particular. From Emsland to Osnabrück, from the village to the city, everything is here – and affordable. These are the ten cheapest places on the North Sea for this summer:

If you want to save money, you should therefore look for less well-known alternatives, as the result of the analysis shows. These are the ten cheapest places on the Baltic Sea:

For the analyses, the platform examined several million search queries in the period from January 1, 2023 to May 31, 2023 and determined the average price per night for the 100 most popular places in the region for a check-in in July 2023. It is important to know here that the actual prices may differ because they change depending on the booking period and availability. Also, not all of the places listed are directly by the sea, but they are a possible starting point for day trips to the sea.
