BER: Climate activists spray paint on plane

Activists wanted to set a “shining warning signal against the ruthless destruction of the climate” and gained access to BER Airport to do so. The color campaign was broadcast live on Twitter.
Climate activists from the Last Generation group spray-painted an airplane at Berlin-Brandenburg Airport. According to the police, it was not, as initially reported, several private jets. The group said the activists cut through the airport fence with wire cutters and rode bicycles to the General Aviation Terminal (GAT).
Private jets and business flights depart from the GAT. A machine parked there had been sprayed with orange paint over a large area. The campaign could be seen via live stream on Twitter, among other places, and a sprayed plane is clearly visible in the video.
“Warning signal against ruthless climate destruction”
Upon request, the airport and the federal police confirmed that activists had gained access to the security area of the airport. It was not initially confirmed whether they had sprayed private jets. It also remained unclear how many activists were on the site.
The group Last Generation spoke first of several private jets that were sprayed: “Our paint campaign turned the private jets from a symbol of excessive luxury into a shining warning sign against the ruthless climate destruction that a minority of the super-rich pursues at the expense of the majority,” said one of activists according to a statement from Last Generation.
Air traffic at the airport was not affected by the climate protest, as the airport and federal police reported to the German Press Agency on request. According to a spokeswoman, the federal police were informed about the protest at 12.42 p.m.
