After the crew of a Bundeswehr aircraft was blinded with a laser pointer, the police have arrested a suspect. She was already lying in wait.

In the Niebüll area In Schleswig-Holstein, a 34-year-old man blinded the pilot of a Bundeswehr propeller plane with a laser pointer. Since there had already been glare from aircraft in the area in the days and weeks before, police officers were in the area and were able to see the glare themselves, the police in Flensburg said on Thursday.

With the help of the Bundeswehr plane’s pilots, who set off on a routine flight to the North Sea, they quickly managed to locate the exact location of the glare. The 34-year-old was found there. He gave the police officers a category four laser pointer, which is not freely available for sale in Germany.

Laser pointer attacks face imprisonment

If convicted, the man faces a minimum sentence of six months in prison for dangerous interference with air traffic safety, and a maximum sentence of up to ten years in prison. In the case of the Bundeswehr machine, none of the crew members were injured by the focused light, and the pilots remained in control at all times.
