Large-scale police operation at a school in Traunstein – Bavaria

Strong police forces surrounded the vocational school in the Upper Bavarian district town of Traunstein on Tuesday afternoon. Task forces, including a heavily armed special task force, are currently combing the school building and securing corridors and classrooms. The police have cordoned off the area at the school center on Wasserburger Strasse, which includes a secondary school and a technical college, from the outside.

According to a police spokesman, the reason for the operation was an emergency call from a teacher. They said they saw one or more young people handling a “weapon-like object” and then entering the building. Apart from this “suspicious perception”, there is currently no further evidence of an actual danger for students or teachers.

The police react to reports like these according to well-rehearsed and intensively practiced processes, which also include the use of the SEK by default. In the school itself, there was also a standardized announcement over the loudspeaker system, according to which the students and teachers should stay in the classrooms and lock the doors. The police are now leading them out of the building in groups.

The news of the operation immediately spread across the region via social media, and a contact point in the city and a citizen hotline were set up for concerned parents and relatives.
