Landshut – vaccine too long in the refrigerator – Bavaria

Landshut:Vaccine in the refrigerator for too long

By Dietrich Mittler, Landshut

At the vaccination center in the city of Landshut, doses from the manufacturer Moderna were administered “over a period of around six weeks” which, according to European guidelines, were kept in the refrigerator for too long. This was announced by a spokesman for the city on Friday. This affects a total of 1722 people who were vaccinated with the vaccine between May 23 and July 7. “Our vaccination center noticed this unfortunate mistake in the middle of the week,” said Mayor Alexander Putz. And: “We will of course immediately inform all those affected, whom I sincerely apologize on behalf of the city of Landshut, in writing.” According to Uwe Schubart, the medical director of the vaccination center, “there are no negative consequences for health to be feared”. In the USA, the vaccine is now stored for up to three months at refrigerator temperature, “without any unusual side effects or reduced effectiveness of the vaccine having been observed since then”. So far, different regulations apply in Europe. Here the vaccine can only be stored for four weeks at refrigerator temperature, i.e. at plus two to plus eight degrees. The city is already in an exchange with the Ministry of Health. Among other things, the question is whether those affected now have adequate vaccination protection.
