Lactalis recalls 24,000 bries, camemberts and coulommiers as a precautionary measure

24,000 raw milk cheeses in total recalled, as a precautionary measure. The Mayenne group Lactalis decided this Friday to expand its recall campaign after the discovery on Tuesday April 5 of traces of listeria in raw milk from a farm that works for Fromageries de Normandie, in Calvados. Additional analyzes confirmed the source of the contamination.

“No poisoning is recorded at this time”, the industrialist Lactalis

“This procedure is carried out in full consultation with the health authorities. The daily requirement and attention of the employees and partner producers of Fromageries de Normandie to offer consumers quality products while respecting traditions motivates this decision to recall voluntary and exhaustive”, explains the world leader in dairy products in a press release.

The recall concerns soft cheeses with a bloomy rind made from raw milk (brie, coulommiers, camembert, petit camembert), whose identification numbers are: 010322LI8, 030322LI8, 070322LI8, 090322LI9, 110322LI4, 150322LI3, 170322LI1, with the remark FR 14.371.001 CE.). They are marketed under the Normanville, Bon Normand, Pâquerettes, Graindorge, Traditions de Normandie and Nous anti-gaspi brands.

Consumers, who have recently purchased, are invited throw them in the trash or bring them back to the store. If some have eaten these cheeses and if they have symptoms (fever, aches, headaches), then they must consult a doctor quickly.

Listeriosis is a rare food infection – a few hundred cases per year in France – but once declared, it is particularly deadly: about a quarter of patients die. The incubation period can be up to eight weeks. This is not the first time that Lactalis has faced a health crisis. In 2018, salmonella was found in baby milk made in the Craon factory (Mayenne). Several dozen infants had fallen ill.
