Lacking parts, the Stellantis factory shut down for another week

Because since the start of the health crisis, the automotive sector has been moving slowly due to a shortage of spare parts which is holding up the entire chain.

In this tense context, the 2,000 employees of the Breton factory, which produces the Peugeot 5008 and the Citroën C5 Aircross, found themselves partially unemployed for a week from October 30 to November 5. A stop which was linked to a lack of braking discs from the Sept-Fons factory in Allier. At the end of the month, the La Janais site will once again be forced to shut down for a week, this time due to a disruption in the supply of gearboxes from Asia.

“Incomprehension and fed up” among employees

According to the trade unionist, the financial impact will be “relatively controlled” due to an agreement on long-term partial activity. But “concern remains about the site’s activity in 2024 despite positive signals such as the agreement to market the C5 Aircross MHEV”, underlines Laurent Valy, also deploring the frantic pace when the factory is running at full capacity.

“When we are present, we have to produce at sustained rates and also overtime in certain departments,” he assures. All this creates a lot of incomprehension and frustration among employees who aspire to stability. »
