Labor market: what triggers the crisis – economy

Although many jobs are still being created, there were significantly more unemployed people in 2023. There is an argument about whether citizens’ money is exacerbating the problems and whether enough Ukrainian refugees are already working.

Last year, many German citizens asked themselves what was going on with their country. Unlike the other major economies, the German economy is shrinking. High inflation, expensive energy and a slump in exports are affecting the Federal Republic far more than other nations. And this is now having an impact on the German labor market, which for a long time seemed completely crisis-resistant: in 2023, an average of 2.6 million citizens were unemployed, almost 200,000 more, the Federal Employment Agency (BA) reported on Wednesday.
