Labor market: Many jobs are being created, but there are significantly more unemployed people – economy

Last year, many German citizens asked themselves what was going on with their country. Unlike the other major economies, the German economy is shrinking. High inflation, expensive energy and a slump in exports are affecting the Federal Republic far more than other nations. And this is now having an impact on the German labor market, which seemed resistant to crises for a long time: in 2023, an average of 2.6 million citizens were unemployed, almost 200,000 more than a year ago, reports the Federal Employment Agency.
