In June the number of job seekers fell by 73,000 to 2.614 million. That is 239,000 fewer unemployed than a year ago. According to the Federal Employment Agency, the improvement in the labor market is continuing.

As a result of the economic upturn, the number of unemployed in Germany also fell in June. It decreased from the previous month by 73,000 to 2.614 million, as the Federal Employment Agency (BA) announced. The unemployment rate fell by 0.2 points to 5.7 percent.

“The comprehensive improvement on the labor market continues in June,” said the Federal Agency’s chairman, Detlef Scheele. “The companies are further reducing short-time work and are looking for new staff again.” After deducting the seasonal fluctuations, the BA calculated a seasonally adjusted monthly decline of 38,000 unemployed.

The BA had already seen the first signs of sustainable improvement in May. The fact that the job market is picking up again can be seen in June compared to the same month last year: Compared to June 2020, the number of unemployed fell by 239,000. In addition, the number of short-time workers fell to 2.34 million in April. The record value in the course of the corona pandemic was just under six million in April 2020.

Significantly less short-time work

The federal agency reported that there was also a noticeable decrease in short-time work. In the period from June 1st to June 24th there were only new advertisements for 59,000 people. Usually, fewer people actually use short-time work than is indicated. The Federal Agency only has data for the actually implemented short-time work until April. According to projections, 2.34 million people were paid short-time working benefits this month. At its peak in April 2020 there were almost six million.

Too few applicants for training positions

At the start of the apprenticeship year, however, the situation on the apprenticeship market is tense. From October 2020 to June 2021, 385,000 young people, 32,000 fewer than a year earlier, applied for an apprenticeship position – with roughly the same number of school leavers. 158,000 applicants were still unsupported in June. To date, the companies had registered 468,000 apprenticeship positions, 15,000 fewer than in the previous year. Of these, 216,000 were still vacant in June.

(Low wages, fixed-term contracts, agency work).

Bernd Kevesligeti @ Then you should always remember that SPD Schröder and green fishermen created this “Hydra” and released it. And for every “head” we try to remove, 10 new ones grow back.
