La Nupes answers yes to Emmanuel Macron’s invitation but not to dinner

This is the great “initiative” signed Emmanuel Macron. For the start of the school year, the President of the Republic invited the parties represented in Parliament on Wednesday – except the Liot group – to the education house of the Legion of Honor in Saint-Denis. A dinner is then planned.

If the four parties of the Nupes (LFI, PS, PCF, EELV) announced Tuesday in a joint press release that they would surrender without “illusion” on Wednesday at the invitation of Emmanuel Macron “to make proposals in the interest of the people”, they will not participate in the dinner.

“We do not want to participate again in a media staging”, explains the Nupes in response to the Head of State who wishes to build “together” legislative texts and open the way, “if necessary”, to referenda. . The program includes an afternoon of work followed by dinner.

“One-stop communication operation”

In this letter to the President of the Republic, the four main parties of the New Popular Ecological and Social Union (Nupes), say they are “stunned” by the terms used by Emmanuel Macron in his invitation. “You write there that for a year, you have been carrying out “a policy of independence and justice”. We think not. You indicate that you have “know how to forge useful compromises” and have put in place “concrete solutions for our school or our health”. We don’t see them,” they criticize.

“Let’s be frank: given the content of your policy and the terms of your invitation, we have no illusions about your objectives”, they write again, saying they are “accustomed” to its “one-shot communication operations and without effect”. “We do not want to participate again in a media scene. This is the reason why we will not participate in the dinner that you are organizing in the evening, ”they argue.

The Nupes will notably make proposals on the difficulties of recruitment in National Education, the increase in the price of school supplies, the cost of student life, the price of electricity, fuel and inflation on food products. . Finally, the left-wing parties are calling for a referendum on pension reform, “the only referendum project that French women and men are waiting for”, according to them.
