La Liga rights awarded to DAZN and Movistar for € 4.95 billion

On the other side of the Pyrenees, football is still so expensive. Movistar and DAZN platforms have acquired the television rights to the Spanish league for the next five seasons for € 4.95 billion, La Liga reported on Monday.

The operation targets the “market in Spain and Andorra in its paid mode, for the seasons 2022/2023 to 2026/2027,” said La Liga. The beneficiaries of these rights are “Movistar with a total of 5 matches per day, plus 3 full days; and DAZN with 5 other matches per day ”.

The end of the three-year lots

“This represents a slight increase in audiovisual revenues compared to the equivalent batches of the previous cycle”. They go from around 980 million euros per season to 990 million euros, according to the authorities of the Spanish championship.

The Spanish league has innovated this year by offering prizes spread over five years, and not three as before. “The possibility that the offers are for a period of five years contributes to greater stability in the medium term and creates greater certainty for investors,” said La Liga. She also stressed that she had received a “very high” number of offers.
