Irles is the sixth L1 coach dismissed since the start of the season, after Peter Bosz in Lyon, Michel Der Zakarian in Brest, Jean-Marc Furlan in Auxerre, Oscar Garcia in Reims and Olivier Dall’Oglio in Montpellier. Appointed on January 3 to replace Laurent Batlles, Irles was supposed to contribute to the policy of developing young players at Estac, a club bought by the City Football Group, whose flagship is Manchester City.

But if he managed to keep Troyes in Ligue 1 last May, finishing in 15th place, his team’s start to the season was sluggish: only three victories in 14 days, the last on September 18 in Clermont (3- 1). Rumors of departure from Irles had flourished in mid-July on social networks and polluted the daily life of the club. The coach had been supported by his leaders, but some of the players contested his methods and his training, even complaining to the management. The choice to oust Irles testifies to the feverishness that agitates many bottom clubs in Ligue 1 in the face of the specter of four descents scheduled at the end of the season (instead of three), in order to reduce the elite to 18 clubs, instead of 20. After 14 days, Troyes is only three steps ahead of Ajaccio, 17th and first relegated.
