It has always made our Democratic colleagues nervous that Senator Kyrsten Sinema often stood around chatting with the Republicans in the chamber. This is no longer common in politically divided Washington, which is why some Democrats wondered whether Sinema was really one of them. There is now an answer to this question: Sinema declared her withdrawal from the party on Friday. She will represent the state of Arizona as an independent senator.
