STORY: According to authorities, the Ukrainian capital Kyiv was shaken by several explosions early Sunday morning. Police chief Ihor Klymenko spoke of a Russian rocket attack in which several people were injured. Mayor Vitali Klitschko appeared in front of the cameras in the affected district of Shevchenkivsky in the morning. “A building has been destroyed and we know there are people under the rubble. They are alive, rescuers are trying to get them out, there is a lot of smoke and we are doing our best to rescue them as soon as possible.” The Ukrainian Ministry of Emergency Situations released footage showing a child being rescued from a damaged building. Residents were rescued from two buildings and brought to safety, Klitschko continued. The historic district in central Kyiv is home to a number of universities, restaurants and art galleries.
