German President makes surprise visit to Kyiv to meet Volodymyr Zelensky
German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier arrived in Kyiv for a surprise visit today. This is his first visit to Ukraine since February 24. He was supposed to go there last week, but the trip was postponed due to a series of Russian attacks.
Upon arrival, he said: “My message to Ukrainians is that we not only stand with you, we will continue to support Ukraine economically, politically and militarily”report the media germans. Mr. Steinmeier will go to the small town of Korjukiwa which had been occupied by Russian troops. This city which is now liberated must face the cold, while its infrastructures are destroyed. The German president will provide aid to the municipality for its energy infrastructure. Mr. Steinmeier will take over the leadership of the sponsorship, together with the Ukrainian President, of the German-Ukrainian town-twinning network. “The more sponsorships there are, the easier it will be to spend the winter and build a European future together”he said.
Yesterday in Berlin, Mr. Steinmeier received at the presidential palace the new Ukrainian ambassador to Germany, Oleksii Makeiev, and his wife, Olena Makeieva.
