Kuwait bans ‘Death on the Nile’ movie starring Israeli actress Gal Gadot

The film Death on the Nile, adaptation of Agatha Christie’s novel by Kenneth Branagh is expected in the next few days in cinemas around the world – it will be released on Wednesday in France – except in Kuwait.

A spokeswoman for the Kuwaiti Ministry of Information confirmed the ban to AFP on Sunday without explaining the reason.

Boycott calls

According to the Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Qabas The decision was reportedly made after boycott calls on social media as the film’s heroine, Gal Gadot, defended Israel’s deadly offensive against the Palestinian enclave of Gaza in the summer of 2014.

During this devastating war – which killed at least 2,251 Palestinians, mostly civilians, and left 74 dead on the Israeli side, mostly soldiers – Gal Gadot praised the Israeli army on Facebook and attacked Hamas in power in Gaza.

In support of the Palestinian cause, Kuwait still refuses normalization with Israel, unlike several Arab countries in the region which have signed agreements with the Jewish state in recent years.
