It was a scandal in front of the camera: Kurt Krömer confronted his guest Faisal Kawusi with his tasteless sayings and racist derailments – and then left the room.

In the course of the previous seven seasons of his interview program “Chez Krömer”, Kurt Krömer had often invited guests towards whom he felt a noticeable antipathy. For example, the AfD politician Erika Steinbach, the former Austrian Vice Chancellor Heinz-Christian Strache or most recently the ex-“Bild” editor-in-chief Julian Reichelt. But no conversation was as unpleasant as in the current episode.

In the edition broadcast on December 6 (already available in the ARD media library), he invited the comedian Faisal Kawusi, of whom Krömer obviously thinks little: “You actually only know it because of a bad gag on Instagram,” said the moderator at the introduction of his guest, whom he slammed in the face: “It’s going to be a real shit show today. Your biography would be a loose-leaf binder.”

Kurt Kroemer in attack mode

That set the tone. Krömer was in attack mode – a large part of the program revolved around the Instagram comment mentioned at the beginning. The comedian from Afghanistan caused outrage in April this year: the musician Silvi Carlsson had criticized a tasteless post by the comedian Joyce Ilg and wrote under it that she herself had almost died from knockout drops. The animated Kawusi, in turn, comments: Next time he will increase her dose. Sat.1 then ended the collaboration.

Kurt Krömer recalls this incident in detail. Kawusi is visibly annoyed. He stood up for his mistake. For him the issue is over. “And now you come six months later and throw a bunch of shit again,” accuses Kawusi Krömer.

That’s just his CV, argues Krömer. What Kawusi vehemently denies: He points out that he made it as a child of a refugee family and that he is the first Afghan to have come so far in the entertainment industry.

Faisal Kawusi gets angry

The reduction of his career to this one incident makes him really angry: “I’ve made over 2000 appearances – that’s not my vita. That’s a comment under a comment on Instagram. That’s the only thing you see.”

Krömer describes the fact that Kawusi apologized to “stern TV” as “the typical regret number”. It quickly becomes clear why he does not relieve his guest’s remorse: After the visit, Kaiwusi tried again on Instagram with a gag about knockout drops. “It doesn’t look like you’ve learned anything now,” concludes the moderator.

Unfortunately, it’s not the only problem: Krömer shows a comedian’s tour poster that commemorates the fatal arrest of George Floyd in 2020. “I just want to let the art speak for itself,” justifies Kawusi.

He racially insulted Motsi Mabuse

But in the next incident, he too runs out of arguments. Krömer recalls that his guest racially insulted Motsi Mabuse in 2017. He is just a human being, the accused now withdraws to his objective existence. “For me, people who act as if they don’t make mistakes are much more suspect.” – “But everything is full of mistakes,” replies Krömer. Which is far from finished and reminds us that Kawusi had to return the Hamburg Comedy Cup in 2015 when it came out that he had stolen gags from Canadian comedian Russell Peters.

In the end, Krömer tries again in principle: You accuse the comedian that his jokes mostly consist of clichés and stereotypes, especially about minorities, and ask: “Why do you always step down?”

He doesn’t really want to understand that. “I’m a kanake myself,” he says. He was below, he himself belonged to a minority. “How can I step down?” He couldn’t do anything with the term at all. “Who created this table?”

Kurt Kroemer doesn’t want to anymore

Since the host finally bursts the collar. As he puts it, Krömer is “tired of it”. He’s getting rude now: “I’ve been thinking all day that it’s going to be absolute shit. We only have assholes here, including you.”

And further: “You only tell shit.” – “And that means?” asks the overwhelmed guest. “That you can fuck off now.” Since Kawusi makes no move to get up, Krömer leaves the room and leaves his guest behind.

Only 24 minutes had passed – Krömer had to wait four minutes in front of the door. The conversation, it becomes clear, has visibly affected him. “Today is the day I go home and see if I reconsider the concept.”

The new episode of “Chez Krömer” is already in the ARD media library to see. The show will be broadcast on RBB on December 6th from 10:15 p.m.
