Kuntz after Turkey play-offs: Success “to be rated very highly”

By qualifying for the World Cup play-offs, Turkey has reached the first intermediate goal on the way to Qatar. Trainer Stefan Kuntz is satisfied.

Head coach Stefan Kuntz sees the Turkish national soccer team on the right path after making it into the play-offs of the World Cup qualification. “I can already see progress in terms of play and team spirit,” said Kuntz SID on Wednesday. But there is still room for improvement in many areas: “But that’s also normal if you haven’t worked together for so long.”

Turkey had secured second place in Group G and the longed-for play-off ticket with a 2-1 (1-1) win in Montenegro on Tuesday. “The success is very satisfactory for us and can be assessed very highly, because it was our dream to still take part in the play-offs,” said Kuntz.

Kuntz quotes his grandma

In the draw on November 26th (5 p.m.) in Zurich, Turkey is placed in Pot 2. Possible opponents in the semi-finals are European champions Italy, Portugal, Scotland, Russia, Sweden and Wales.

Kuntz doesn’t have one opponent: “Things that I can’t influence, my grandmother said earlier, I don’t have to worry about them. I’ll wait for November 26th and see what comes out of the drawing.”
