Kunsthaus Zürich wants to reappraise Bührle’s looted art with experts – culture

No, Ann Demeester is not to be envied. The Belgian, born in Bruges in 1975, took over the management of the Kunsthaus in Zurich almost six months ago. The Haus am Heimplatz is one of the most important modern art museums in Europe, so under normal circumstances Demeester’s new job would be a jackpot in the art scene. But in the meantime, the top-class museum is regarded above all as the house that wanted to adorn itself with the historically charged collection of the arms manufacturer Emil Bührle – and thus slipped into an existential crisis. Now Ann Demeester is trying something like a liberation – with an exit plan from the crisis.
