The quarrels about the “Kunsthalle Berlin” expand and reach politics now. After Research by the FAZ have brought to light that the Foundation for Art and Culture, run by Walter Smerling, not only gets the two hangars in the former Tempelhof Airport rent-free from the city for two years, but also, contrary to earlier assurances, a subsidy for operating costs totaling 1.2 million Euro, the resentment in the art scene had become louder and louder. At the end of the week it was therefore also the subject of the current question time in the Berlin House of Representatives: How the Senate reacts to the criticism of the artists, “that public money is made available here to take on the operating costs for such an exhibition, while elsewhere there is a “lack of space and other possibilities” in the city.
