Kulturkampf about the Platt at Hamburg’s Ohnsorg Theater – culture

Who exactly “the people” are today is of such fundamental importance for hardly any other cultural institution as it is for the Volkstheater. In the Hamburg Ohnsorg Theater, the most important regional language stage in Northern Germany, this question of definition has even led to a tough culture war. Is the people the diverse cross-section of many origins that a statistical survey would reveal? Or does the people actually consist of many people, one of whom goes to a Low German folk theater, where only this group is meant as a people? Opinions are divided on this question at the Hamburg private theater, where the traditionalists rebelled.
